Five shelves
My afternoon plans were cancelled, so I decided to go in search of a bookstore. I had heard that Carpina (population: somewhere between 50-100 thousand) had a bookstore. I mean, we are a decent sized town, an hour and a half away from Recife, which is three times the size of Indianapolis. There has to be a bookstore, right? I went to the place everyone told me. It was a stationary store. With 5–count them–5 shelves of books randomly placed throughout the store. One was Bibles. Interesting to find that in the “bookstore” with 5 shelves, one of Bibles, they had Ayn Rand (Philosopher), Charlotte Bronte, and Stormie Omartin. And of course, Stephanie Myers. I just find it depressing…
Five shelves.
On the bright side, I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to the wonderful people who gave me some extra mulah specifically towards buying books. There is a beautiful (FAVORITE PLACE!) bookstore in Recife that has a good selection of books: my favorite buy being “the Giving Tree” which I now have in English and Portuguese.
My goal? Have more books available for Living Stones than all of Carpina combined. Five shelves. We are on our way, and more are coming in suitcases for me next week:
